Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, Flint MI

• President & CEO 1995 to present

Eleven years’ experience as CEO of a mid-sized Goodwill serving ten counties in mid-Michigan. The operation currently includes more than $7 million in retail sales from eleven retail stores, an industrial contracts division and diverse, CARF-accredited training and employment services. During my tenure, the implementation of a “rolling” strategic plan has resulted in the doubling of retail sales and stores, the refocusing of its mission to community-based workforce development and the complete revamping of its industrial contracts operations.

First Presbyterian Church of Flint, MI

• Business Administrator 1990 to1995

Provided financial, facilities and non-ministerial staff management for a 2,760 member church with 15 support staff members, a 50,000 square foot facility, a $1.5 million annual operating budget and over $7 million in endowment funds, Specific responsibilities included staff management, financial, purchasing, stewardship, food service and membership records management, facilities management and fund investment management.

Citizens Banking Corporation, Flint MI

• Senior Vice President, Director of Marketing 1986 to 1990

Directed advertising, promotion, market research, corporate communications and sales support services for all business lines. Served on the Bank’s Senior Management, Asset/Liability and Pricing Committees. Specific responsibilities included development of strategic marketing plans, retail banking products, quality services programs, branch location analyses and consolidated corporate advertising for five corporate affiliates.

• Senior Vice President, Retail Banking 1984 to 1986

Overall management of the branch banking system (32 offices and 250 employees), retail deposits of $600 million and consumer loans of $200 million. Specific responsibilities included the organization of three separate business units into a single, cohesive division, management of that division, development of retail financial products and the creation of a retail pricing system.

• Vice President, Marketing and Human Resources 1978 to 1984

Managed the Marketing and HR departments, including compensation, benefits, employment training, labor relations and staff training for approximately 1,100 FTE employees, and the advertising, promotion, public relations and market research functions for the Bank. Specific responsibilities included skills-and performance-based hiring, placement, and compensation systems, employee training and skills inventory, advertising, promotion and public relations.

• Manager, Market Research and Development 1972 to 1978

Managed the Research and Planning Department, providing information from primary and secondary sources. Specific responsibilities included development of the Bank’s strategic plan, the establishment of branch bank locations, creation of retail banking products and administration of consumer banking market surveys.
