Kevin was the copy editor of the Loyola School newspaper which was published once a week. He also wrote articles for the paper. He spent his junior year in Rome, Italy. He learned the Italian language and wrote extensively about his travels for family and publications in his home town.
Kevin completed 60 hours of graduate study that included classroom internships as well as experiences in areas that included Piagetian child development studies, involving students and staff in agricultural experiences, providing training to student teachers and leading a staff of 30 teachers in regards to professional development.
Kevin received a doctorate in education from National Louis University located in Chicago/Skokie Illinois. In addition to writing the dissertation, the program required extensive writing and presentation in each of the classes and seminars. During this time, Kevin was provided opportunities to provide as well as receive editing, continually increasing his skills as both writer and reader.
Kevin wrote entries for a publication called Nurturing News in the mid 1980's. One entry was entitled "Nurturing: A Bond Through the Generations"
Kevin has published a dissertation and thesis that focused on aspect of curricular and childhood learning development.
He has written resource guide, journal and blog articles for district publications, Principal Magazine and National Louis University Alumni Magazine.
Kevin was a contributor to "Journey Out: Memoirs of Men Coming to Grips with Their Orientation" published in 2010.
As a school principal, Kevin provided a weekly newsletter for the staff and a monthly newsletter for the parent community. The example below was written in the last months prior to his retirement in 2007.
Kevin wrote an article for Principal Magazine, published in 2011. The article was entitled "No Substitute Left Behind" and conveyed what a principal can do to help to make the work of substitute teachers more effective. This article also provided the framework for presentations given at national and regional principal meetings.
