Catherine specialises in writing for and about the arts. After working in theatre for over 10 years, she is well-versed in creative industries, from playwriting to social media marketing, to reviewing, she's done it all. Now, she spends her time writing romance novels and other creative fiction, but she can also write for the professional sphere, with well-worded emails, succinct copy, and attractive resumes.
Catherine loves reading, and tends to read more than three novels a week across a number of genres. She is based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and is passionate about women's rights and marginalised communities. In her spare time, Catherine enjoys swimming, cooking, drinking tea and watching copious amounts of television.
Catherine completed her Bachelor of Honours in Theatre Studies and Classical Studies at the end of 2012. In 2013 she continued studying at an honours levels with the same subjects, and achieved First Class Honours for her efforts.
At the end of 2022, Catherine completed her Masters of Creative Writing, where she completed an 80,000 word manuscript, and a 8,000 academic essay to accompany it. Her focus was on the romance novel, with a specific look into queer and science fiction work. She was awarded a Distinction for her efforts.
Catherine worked in the arts industry for almost ten years, specialising in working on international arts festivals. She has experience in performance, visual arts and film. During this time she ran a theatre reviewing website, writing and editing reviews for fringe festivals, as well as working on individual performances as a collaborator and technician. She is passionate about the entertainment sector, and this comes through in any writing she completes.
Catherine has personal experience maintaining healthy relationships of both monogamous and a polyamorous nature. She is fascinated by the different ways relationships (whether romantic, sexual or platonic) can play out between two people, and promotes any couple that is healthy and happy in the ways that suit them. She has written countless blogs and articles on this topic and continues to learn and adapt as she encounters different ways of living.
Catherine is a passionate intersectional feminist, constantly supporting and lifting female voices across her personal and professional life. She has published multiple articles for feminist magazines with a female targeted audience, and is very interested in continuing to do so.
Catherine has been published on over six different websites, including feminist journals, arts reviewing sites, and news publications. She has experience working with editors and pitching different ideas, as well as sourcing accompanying images, editing articles for other writers and uploading content. Additionally, she has experience researching from her time completing multiple university degrees.
Catherine has experience emailing clients and creating content for mailing lists from a marketing perspective. She has a succinct yet friendly tone, and will always focus on where important information is located to ensure the recipient will take note. In her mind, the most important thing is to break the text into manageable chunks, while creating flow and eye-catching material.
Catherine has experience writing multiple resumes, including cover letters, for various individuals working in different industries. She knows what is relevant and what is not, and focuses on appearing friendly and appealing while conveying a professional tone. A well-written resume is also a well-formatted resume, and Catherine spends time ensuring the overall document flows effectively, without overwhelming the reader with information.
Catherine has written countless bio's and profiles for herself and her coworkers. She enjoys using contrasting professional and personal material to portray someone's character, using either formal or colloquial language depending on the platform the client is using.
Catherine is currently writing her third novel, after spending years writing short-stories and flash-fiction. Her background in playwriting taught her much about world building and writing natural dialogue. At the end of 2022 she finished her Masters of Creative Writing, where she wrote a romance science fiction novel and received a distinction grade for her work.
