Karyn has written several travel articles and guides -- she is also a travel advisor, which gives her a unique perspective in this niche! She also specializes in legal blogging, education content, and real estate. She considers herself a generalist who can research and write on a broad range of topics.
In addition to being a writer, Karyn is also an experienced copyeditor and proofreader. When she's not writing or editing, she enjoys camping/traveling, gardening, cooking, photography, reading (primarily historical fiction), hiking, and wine. She is a coffee addict who enjoys her daily walks around her 5-acre yard with her elderly dog, Blitz.
Karyn completed her master's degree at the end of 2020 and graduated in 2021. She was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta honor society as a result of her academic accomplishments in the program.
Karyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from The Ohio State University, specializing in British literature.
Travel writing is how Karyn got her start. She started out writing travel guides for various European and American cities. She has written travel articles for a variety of print and online publications over the past 17 years. Her current interests include traveling in a travel trailer and agritourism. Karyn is also a travel advisor.
Karyn is a 3-time homeowner and understands residential real estate from a buyer's perspective. This knowledge has served her well in getting a couple of real estate assignments for a local newspaper. Professionally, she has worked as a lease coordinator for a hospital system, where she learned a lot about commercial real estate -- especially the leasing of medical buildings.
Karyn has a paralegal certificate from James Madison University, and though she has never worked at a law firm, she has a general knowledge of many areas of law. She worked as a legal blogger for a time, using local news stories to explain the importance of retaining a lawyer in specific situations.
Karyn worked as a K-12 substitute teacher for two years and taught college composition for two years. She used this experience to write online articles and lesson plans for a web publishing company specializing in education. She has a bachelor's and master's degree, giving her experience in academic writing.
Karyn has written articles for a variety of print and online publications and websites on topics such as travel destinations, jobs, education and career options, and real estate. She has taken journalism courses and understands the importance of vetting sources and consulting subject matter experts when necessary. She is also experienced at conducting interviews.
Karyn has been writing blog posts for more than 20 years, both personally and professionally. As a freelancer, she has written numerous blogs for law firms that combine local news events with legal topics (personal injury, wills/trusts, etc.). She worked in-house at an industrial supply company, where she wrote for the company blog for 3.5 years.
Karyn’s biggest website content project was helping a solar energy client with a complete website refresh. She was also part of a freelance team that wrote facility descriptions for a major recreational booking website. As an in-house employee, Karyn has also drafted landing page content for special promotions.
While working at an industrial supply company, Karyn completed 30+ sales newsletters each month using Adobe InDesign. Prior to that, she worked in-house in real estate and put together a monthly newsletter for the department – which was outside her work duties. She often curated content in addition to writing and/or editing.
