As a parent, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Reiki Master Practitioner, trained meditation teacher, lifelong learner and reader, Kristy specializes in the areas of parenting, lifestyle, culture, health and wellness, nutrition, psychology and spirituality. These topics interest her personally as well as professionally and drive her curiosity.
Kristy is interested in photography (particularly street and documentary-style black and white), music, books, film, poetry, and food and wine. She is a student of astrology and practices yoga and pilates. When she's not writing, she can be found wandering one of the many Greenbelt trails in Austin, poking around in indie bookstores, taking and editing photos, and trying to cook (or at least checking out food blogs and making lots of notes to self).
Kristy is a fitness enthusiast, a certified Reiki Master Practitioner, a graduate of the Health Coach Training Program through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and has studied meditation in the Spirit Junkie Masterclass with New York Times award-winning author Gabrielle Bernstein. Fitness, health and wellness are essential elements in her daily life, and subjects about which has extensive expertise.
Kristy has written numerous articles reviewing concerts and albums, and also retrospective feature pieces for lifestyle magazines and newspapers focused on the topic of musical artists and their body of work. Music is one of her greatest personal passions, and she has a particular appreciation for the singer-songwriter genre and lyrically-driven compositions.
Kristy is the parent of two special-needs boys, ages 15 and 18. Her oldest, diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (now referred to more broadly as ASD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder) at the age of 4, is preparing to leave for college this fall. Her youngest, 15, has a communication disorder, several learning disorders, and ADHD. He is a high school freshman. She has been a single parent for 12 years, and has specialized knowledge in this area. Additionally, she has worked in Special Education at the elementary, middle and high school levels, and has worked in a residential treatment center for adolescent boys struggling with substance use disorder.
Kristy has extensive experience writing and editing short- and long-form pieces for newspapers, magazines, websites and authors. She specializes in human interest stories and features that profile individuals, as well as news articles, product reviews and album and concert reviews. She also enjoys photography as a hobby, and would like to weave it into more of her work.
Kristy has experience crafting social media posts on Instagram and Facebook for an athletic event company that partners with a brewery to promote their annual run and bike ride.
