An academic researcher by training, all of Thomas' writing is science-focused and well-sourced. He stays up-to-date with quality scholarly articles regarding substance use and mental health and incorporates them into all of his writing. He has been published in two academic journals, given several presentations on a variety of addiction-related topics, and worked as a research assistant in an alcohol research laboratory at an R2 university.

Thomas has extensive experience within the healthcare system. He has spent over 6 years working in multiple clinical roles throughout his career, including medical detoxification facilities and secure psychiatric residential treatment.

He spent two years working in a research laboratory writing academic articles and conducting research looking into the social determinants of alcohol use and other facets of social psychology. He has two scholarly articles published under his name, "Alcohol in the workplace" and "Drinking to Cope in the COVID-19 Era: An Investigation Among College Students".
