Travel writing, grant writing, product descriptions, business writing, feature stories and straight journalism that requires digging for facts and finding the unusual angle.
Spending time with her family is Susan's favorite activity in her free time. They cook and bake together, play together and are currently working on an online magazine about kids, which will begin publication this summer. She is an avid reader, writes children's fiction, poetry and serves on the board of a poetry not-for-profit. She is an active member of the Writers Center of Indiana.
Susan has written travel features for a chain of community newspapers where she was a staff writer and editor, for the Gary Post-Tribune, and she wrote a monthly travel feature for Hamilton County Business Views magazine. She wrote approximately 80 pieces that were published on USA Today's Travel Tips web page, 60 for Golflink, 10 for Trails Travel, 15 for Travels.com and two travel pieces for the Huffington Post.
For 18 months, Susan was assistant editor of a monthly magazine that covered the not-for-profit community in Indianapolis, where she also wrote several articles every month. Since then, she has written freelance articles for other publications about not-for-profits, and worked full time in a not-for-profit as a grant writer for four years. She now serves on the board of a not-for-profit that she helped establish.
During Susan's more than 20 year career as a journalist, she wrote literally thousands of articles while she was a staff writer and editor for a chain of community newspapers, assistant editor of a monthly magazine, and freelance writer for dozens of newspapers, magazines, and a national wire service.
Susan successfully completed the grant writing course at the Fundraising School through Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy. She worked four years as a full time grant writer for a large not-for-profit, has written grants for not-for-profits on a freelance basis, and now writes grants for a not-for-profit she helped establish.
