Carling has experience in a variety of areas including literary fiction, copywriting, music journalism, press releases, blog writing, and editing.
Carling is a professional banjoist who tours when she can make time for it. She also enjoys listening to crime podcasts, hiking, and, of course, reading.
Carling graduated from Bennington College in 2019 with a concentration in creative writing and literature. Her thesis was an 80-paged collection of short stories.
Carling has worked for various music publications and labels, including Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and Fretboard Journal, where, among many tasks, she wrote copy and edited stories for print. She is also well-versed in music management and handles all promotional, booking, administrative, and distribution related components for numerous musical groups. She has released five albums and has one forthcoming.
As an Editorial Assistant for Bennington Review, Carling read through submissions for potential publication and worked directly with the editing, design, and production of the magazine. With Fretboard Journal, she composed stories for publication, including an article titled "Fretboard 101: Open Back Banjo Construction." Her work with this journal also involved editing manuscripts and other materials for final print.
Carling has experience writing and editing press releases for upcoming albums, promoting new releases, and composing pitch emails. The majority of her work in this field was through Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.
Carling has written articles and blog posts for many different magazines and organizations. She has experience in interviewing, research, and shaping compiled information into a narrative.
