Christy earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Illinois State University. During undergrad, she wrote for the school's newspaper, anchored the TV and radio stations, was an active Student Illinois Broadcasters Association member and scholarship award winner, and served as the president of the Student Association for Women in Communications. Christy was also the president and captain of the Illinois State University women's rugby team.
