Julia completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. The degree entailed general studio art studies that focused on graphic design, photography, and videography. Julia was an honors student who participated in several art showcases that included art talks and displays of her artwork. This work included the composition of scripts for videos, copy for graphic design, and artist statements. This degree was completed concurrently with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Julia completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing at the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond in Richmond Virginia. Her focus on marketing included communications, strategy, and research. She received the Beta Gamma Sigma award for achieving a GPA in the top 10% of her class. This degree was completed concurrently with her Bachelor of Arts.
Julia completed a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. She also received a concentration in Publishing. The writing Julia completed in this program included creative nonfiction and fiction. She served as Newsletter Fellow in which she photographed and reported on the happenings of the program in monthly issues. Julia received the Best Fiction Thesis award chosen by university faculty.
Julia worked as a Media & Communications Assistant at Care Advantange, Inc., a home healthcare company in Richmond, Virginia. In this position, Julia completed various writing activities including press release, article ghostwriting, copywriting, copyediting, manuscript ghostwriting, marketing writing, content creation, blog writing, and newsletter writing.
Before that, she also worked as a Pharmacy Technician at CVS Pharmacy. This provided an inside perspective of the healthcare industry and an intimate understanding of patient relations.
As Media and Communications Assistant at Care Advantage, Inc., Julia participated in the adoption nonprofit Connecting Hearts in Virginia. The organization was led by Care Advantage, Inc.'s then-CEO Debbie Johnston. Having been named "Virginia's Adoption Champion" by Virginia's Governor, Johnston founded the organization with Julia's marketing support. Among tasks like designing the nonprofit's logo and writing copy for the website, Julia also wrote press releases, ghostwrote articles, copyedited, created content, etc.
During Julia's undergraduate studies and after receiving her bachelor's degrees, she served in two positions at the Weinstein Center for Recreation & Wellness at the University of Richmond. As both a Marketing Assistant and then later as Operations Coordinator, Julia created marketing materials for the various programs offered by the Center including fitness classes, sports teams, and wellness activities. Her work involved copywriting for print and digital advertisements as well as for social media.
Most communications strategies are incomplete without a presence online. Julia's experiences in marketing have almost always involved social media strategy including content creation. She has developed social media strategies from scratch on several occasions. As social media is ever-changing, this work includes research into current best practices and the most up-to-date approaches. Julia assumes a consistent brand voice and a suitable tone for each post.
Throughout her career in marketing and communications, Julia has penned press releases on a diverse range of topics for corporations, nonprofits, independent book presses, theaters, family businesses, and many more. She synthesizes important stories into readable, convincing pieces that easily convert to press coverage.
In each communications position in which Julia has served, she has been tasked with creating advertisements. With a background in graphic design, Julia provides full advertising services including imagery, photography, and copywriting. She writes and designs print ads for magazines, newspapers, event programs, banners, etc. She also creates online ads. She understands the best strategy for each type of advertisement ensuring a high ROI for each ad buy.
