Assistant Park Manager
-Performed administrative duties, including; writing/editing reports, documents and policies; communicated with staff and colleagues inside the agency and customers/individuals outside the agency and providing stellar customer service; monitored the park’s website for accuracy; answered emails/phone calls in a timely fashion; created/maintained excel spreadsheets; analyzed financial data; and performed cash management/procurement duties , including completing travel reimbursements and following state procurement and SPCC guidelines in the purchasing of items for the park.
-Strategically assisted in the development, management, and monthly monitoring of the parks budget by deadlines and maintained personnel, facilities, services, and programs as funded.
-Assisted park staff in planning, preparation and hosting various volunteer organizations and other events at the park (including setting up/preparing meeting space, communicating with groups prior to their arrival, and provided excellent customer service while group is at the park).
-Fostered and built relationships with local officials, organizations, government agencies, and businesses to inform them of park activities and to promote the mission of the agency and the park.
-Took a proactive approach to resolving inefficiencies and increasing cost effectiveness, by evaluating all park functions, services, facilities and programs within the park.
-Provided excellent internal customer service and personnel management to a total of four full-time staff (two directly and two indirectly) and up to ten seasonal staff and volunteers, by mentoring and training them in various areas of park operations to ensure a high standard of park operation. Communicated and worked collaboratively with staff to accomplish challenging goals and work through obstacles as they arose.
-As a sworn Conservation Officer, provided resource and visitor protection by applying local, state, and federal laws, as well as park regulations, as they relate to visitor safety, resource protection and security. Trained in Emergency Response (search and rescue, weather related incidents, medical emergencies, boating incidents, active shooter, SAR, etc). Attended required bi-annual DCJS and DCR firearms and in-service training.
HOLLIDAY LAKE STATE PARK, Appomattox, Virginia, December 2006-July 2013 Chief Ranger
-Executed administrative duties, including; wrote and edited reports; maintained communications and correspondence within the agency and with outside agencies, organizations and park guests; monitored the park’s website for accuracy; submitted several grant requests; created and maintained excel spreadsheets; analyzed financial data; and performed cash management and procurement duties.
-Managed and implemented volunteer program at park and collaborated with other local agencies /organizations to find innovative ways to promote volunteer opportunities, employment positions and interpretive programs at park.
-Trained, mentored and supervised one full time park ranger and up to twenty-five seasonal staff.
-Collaboratively worked with Park Manager in developing/ implementing marketing and operational plan at the park.
-Administered the park concession and boat operations that provided swimming, boat rentals, food, and merchandise sales to park guests.
-As a sworn Conservation Officer, provided resource and visitor protection by maintaining and applying local, state, and federal laws, as well as park regulations, as they related to visitor safety, resource protection and security.
STAUNTON RIVER STATE PARK, Scottsburg, Virginia, July 2005-November 2006 Chief Ranger
-Conducted administrative, procurement and staff management duties at the park.
-Supervised and implemented the volunteer and the Environmental Education program at the park.
-Mentored and supervised two full time park rangers and approximately twenty seasonal staff.
-Provided resource and visitor protection by maintaining and applying local, state, and federal laws, as well as park regulations, as they related to visitor safety, resource protection and security as a sworn Conservation Officer.
-Managed seasonal concession and pool operations, including hiring, training and supervising staff.
