Since third grade, Alexis wanted to be a writer, and she's been grateful to see her dreams come true. Her passion for writing and reading led her to study English and Creative Writing in undergrad and grad school and to continually find ways to expand her writing repertoire, from writing for newspapers and magazines to creating content for websites and developing grant proposals for non-profits.
Areas of interest include education, cultural competency, travel, literature, media studies, film studies, gender studies, women's rights, social justice, and non-profits.
Besides writing and reading, in her spare time, Alexis likes to practice Tae Kwon Do, attempt new yoga poses, and make up songs on her piano.

For the majority of her career, Alexis has worked in the non-profit sector, with a specific focus on communications, development, and education. Previous projects include writing grants, newsletter articles, blog posts, and training curricula.
Alexis has a long history of editing and proofreading academic work, including articles, dissertations, and theses. From journal articles by professors of Social Work to book-length dissertations in the fields of Anthropology, Political Science, and Physics, Alexis has provided editorial support and feedback for a wide range of scholars in diverse fields. Additionally, with an MFA in Creative Writing and a Certificate in Gender Studies, Alexis also has a background in writing for academic audiences in the Liberal Arts and Cultural Studies fields.
As Assistant News Editor at The Gamecock, University of South Carolina's newspaper, Alexis wrote 2-3 articles per week and has since expanded her repertoire to writing for magazines and online publications. Most recently, as an employee at the University of South Carolina, she wrote biweekly news articles for a university department highlighting the work by students, faculty, and staff.
Alexis has extensive experience in development and grant-writing, from working as the Lead Development Coordinator at a national non-profit in New Orleans to writing a wide variety of grant proposals for local non-profit agencies in South Carolina and beyond.
