Phil has been writing for as long as he has been able. He has published numerous pieces of both fiction and non-fiction online, some of them paid, most of them not. He was an administrator of Daily Lit Deviations, a prominent literary group on DeviantArt, where on a weekly basis he chose pieces of writing to feature in the group newsletter. Several of his articles have been published on A Voice for Men, and he has twice completed National Novel Writing Month, a competition in which participants are to write a 50,000-word novel in the month of November. He writes on a daily basis and publishes sporadically.
