Research, Statistical Analysis
While completing his degree at CSULA, Xavier applied his coursework to real-world problems. At work, he used his training in econometrics and statistics to find relationships between categories of products sold. Given the nature of his writing, he also uses statistical analysis - namely regression and correlation analysis - to find and elaborate trends in baseball.
At The Sports Quotient, Xavier covered the Los Angeles Dodgers, but now only contributes a weekly column. His articles have examined Max Scherzer's dominance in the first half of 2015, Dallas Keuchel's pitch sequencing, and payroll mismanagement by the Seattle Mariners.
Xavier also writes for Baseball Prospectus. His bi-monthly articles focus on the Milwaukee Brewers. He has written about Jimmy Nelson's struggles on the mound, Jean Segura's adjustments at the plate, and the perceived value of Mike Fiers before he was traded.
In total, Xavier has written fifty-six articles between The Sports Quotient and Baseball Prospectus. The data that he used in his articles have come from various online databases such as Fangraphs and Baseball Reference. His work frequently features the information on these websites.
