With almost 20 years as a professional writer, editor and communicator, as well as 15 years of graphic design experience, Mel Jones has spent her career in both nonprofit communications and magazine editorial direction. Jones has always had a way with words, and in fourth grade she caught her very first typo—which involved her own writing assignment and the omission of a very essential consonant in the word "shirt." She holds bachelor's degrees in both journalism and English.

As a nonprofit communications director, Jones manages all communications and marketing efforts, including website, email marketing, social media, press releases and program materials. As a one-person department, she writes, edits and designs print and digital content for more than two dozen programs.

As a magazine editor and editorial director, Jones' skills include managing the editorial direction and content for monthly and quarterly magazines, writing stories, editing copy and proofing final books before publication. And as publications director for a nationally known lifestyle brand, her responsibilities ranged from ghostwriting editorial content for lifestyle experts, crafting sponsor-related content, developing marketing materials and writing scripts.

While Jones has split her career across two very different industries, she has done so by continuously honing her core strengths—excellent research skills, willingness to learn about unfamiliar subject matter for new projects, understanding her audience, a true love of words, and advanced knowledge and usage of AP Style—to develop creative and compelling content.
