Mark teaches communications and media courses online for the University of Phoenix, for which he has served as a subject matter expert on the development of journalism classes. He also enjoys gardening, having converted much of his backyard into an English-style cottage garden.
I graduated cum laude from Muhlenberg College, where I was a member of Alpha Tau Omega service fraternity and managing editor of the campus newspaper, The Weekly.
I received my master's in journalism, with a concentration in urban affairs, from Northwestern University. While going to school, I worked part time in the sports department of television station WGN, the broadcast home of the Chicago Cubs. I also was one of two master's students selected by faculty to edit the alumni newsletter for NU's Kellogg School of Management.
Most of my editing in the health field has been for HealthLeaders, an information services company that provides market analyses of service provider sectors in state and metropolitan areas. The content typically is dense with statistics about hospital beds, pharmaceutical costs, and any other factors that would change the balance of medical power within a given geographic area. The material requires strict attention to detail and surgical editing skills.
Mark S. is interested in personal finance, business, health and technical subjects. He writes abstracts of articles from the Money section of a major London newspaper for an American client. He has edited finance-related documents, including newsletters, annual reports, and marketing brochures, for banks, utilities and other corporate clients.
Mark's editing in the realm of green services has been for online newsletters produced by the Department of Energy's Commercial Building Partnerships and initiatives. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado is a key driver behind these initiatives.
