Alethea has a long experience in graphic design, illustration and photography. She has been a writer at WriterAccess since 2013 and freelancing commercial art on her own since 2008. She has done photography and content creation for national brands, including the NFL, SOLO, White Castle, Applebees, Aquaphor, Kashi, Kraft, Petco and many more.
Alethea got her B.A. in Communications Arts and Graphic Design in 2009 from the University of Saint Francis with a double focus in Illustration and Graphic Design. Through high school, she took private art lessons and completed intensive summer art camps through USF. This helped her create a portfolio that landed the largest art scholarship available at the school. She graduated with High Honors and a 3.75 GPA, making the Dean’s List every semester of her college career.
While In college, Alethea got an illustration accepted into the Society of Illustrators competition in New York. Her colored pencil illustration of Mislav Rostropovich was displayed at a highly selective show that narrowed down 10,000 entries to 144 displayed pieces. Her illustration of Mislav was one of two pieces from the show to make the cover of the show program book. During college she also worked on campus as a sports photographer for the teams and shadowed a wedding photographer as an assistant. She completed a paid internship with a graphic design firm and shadowed an award-winning children’s book illustrator as a studio assistant.
After graduating, Alethea worked as a freelance illustrator and photographer while working as Art Director at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne. In 2010, became the Marketing Assistant at Lifeline Youth and Family Services (a local nonprofit), where she was responsible for producing all digital content and printed marketing materials. While at Lifeline, Alethea designed their 25-page services brochure that was used to explain programming options to judges, lawyers, parents and caseworkers of troubled kids. She created Lifeline’s flyers, donor newsletters, staff newsletters, website banners and more—photographing events for the website and newsletters.
In 2013, Alethea made the shift to go fully freelance, starting at WriterAccess as a ghostwriter and also working some freelance photography jobs (largely weddings and portraits). In 2017, she started teaching art classes to youth as an independent contractor at Vincent Village (a local step housing nonprofit program for homeless families), helping them with therapeutic art, developing art skills and program fundraising. In 2018 she started working with brands as a contracted blogger, visual content creator and product photographer.
Alethea is well-versed in font use, composition and color. She is proficient in all Adobe programs, Quark, Canva, Gimp and more. She loves traditional mediums, but was also trained in the digital arts. Her professional experience as a photographer covers product photography, portraits, lifestyle, sport photography, wedding photography, stock photography and nature photography. She has some experience with HTML, Flash and videography.
