Kelly draws from her varied business experience to write about topics that affect employees on a personal level (such as dealing with a difficult boss). She is also a licensed special education teacher in Virginia and writes on education topics.

Kelly worked with students spanning pre-kindergarten to high school. These students had multiple disabilities.
Kelly graduated at the top of her class, interned at the White House and learned about various forms of writing including technical and business writing.
Kelly has published several novels and short stories under her pen name. Many of these works have won awards, and one was a Lambda Literary Award finalist.
