Joshua specializes first in creative writing, whether for a preexisting IP or something original. He loves to create and build worlds, focusing on an engaging narrative filled with complex characters. Joshua is a story-teller and brings those sensibilities to anything he writes.
Joshua also specializes in technical, detail-oriented copy and content writing based on a combination of meticulous research and already amassed knowledge. Joshua is well-versed in many things and believes having a strong foundation in a variety of topics helps make him an approachable, well-rounded writer.
Coupled with unique perspectives and life experiences, Joshua is specially adaptable to any form of content writing.
Joshua loves writing in general for a wide array of interests, but if he had to narrow it down to only a handful...
SPACE
Joshua has been fascinated by space since the first time he watched Star Trek and Star Wars. Those properties opened him to a love for both the grounded, real-world things we, as humans, are exploring and discovering, and the science fiction and fantasy films those discoveries influence and inform.
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS & WORLD HISTORY
Joshua has been interested in ancient civilizations and world history since the second grade, where he extensively (for a kid) studied Ancient Egypt. That early foundation led to a growing appreciation of World History, both its scope and influence on the direction of humanity.
THE NATURAL WORLD
Joshua loves researching and writing about biomes, the plants and animals they contain, and how they (and we) interact with each other. Most recently, Joshua has found an intense interest in the field of Mycology, and how it could be applied to space travel, colonization, and terraforming.
FOOD, TRAVEL, & CULTURE
Joshua places special value and meaning on experiencing new food and new cultures, through travel or through exploration of places in his home city. He is fascinated by the relationship between various peoples, their food, and their culture.
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Joshua is very interested in the development and impact of specific technology and topics like Crispr, artificial intelligence, carbon reduction, theoretical physics, and virtual environments/living spaces.
Joshua studied Art, specifically Graphic Design over his four years at university. Given more options in classes, he also would have completed a minor in both Film and English (writing).
Joshua has worked as a writer and post coordinator in the Entertainment Industry since 2015. Joshua has used his intimate understanding of the film and television process, coupled with hands-on production / post production experience to craft numerous tv pilot and feature film scripts.
Most recently, Joshua has created an entire five-season show and had some success pitching the pilot script to multiple studios and production companies. Currently, Joshua is completing several additional feature length film scripts, and adapting his tv pilot into a series of novels to better establish the IP.
Joshua has written several short form stories for the hobby industry, specifically for Warhammer 40K from London-based Games Workshop. Joshua has also created and written backgrounds for various characters and factions within the game, such as the Space Marines, Orks, and Tyranids.
Joshua is currently adapting two existing IPs into tabletop battle games similar to Warhammer, and has designs and outlines (including armies, background, lore, and game mechanics) for an original tabletop battle game.
Joshua is both an active writer and game master for several different tabletop roleplaying games. He has written multiple adventure modules (to be published for free online) for established IPs like Dungeons and Dragons and Star Wars, crafting original characters, locations, and stories to inhabit them and provide players with lasting engagement and excitement.
Joshua enjoys researching and incorporating existing lore and characters to enhance his modules and provide deeper layers of content to keep players coming back for further adventures for years to come.
Joshua is also an avid videogame player and enjoys writing about upcoming games he's interested in playing, and detailed reviews of the games he's played, for social media sites and feeds.
Since 2006, Joshua has written numerous blog posts / case studies regarding his research and investigation into purportedly haunted locations around the Midwest, with a particular emphasis on history and local legends. These locations ranged from a private residence with a past as a mortician's practice, to a theater on a college campus, to an abandoned prison, and even several trips to Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
For his posts, Joshua employed thorough research coupled with interviews to sort out historical fact from fiction. Along with detailed documentation from his investigations, Joshua was able to provide his readers with a rich understanding of each location's factual history, the local legends surrounding it, and draw a literary correlation to any paranormal events and experiences at those locations.
Joshua has written multiple issues for various original comic book projects, all of which are being shopped around to independent publishers at the moment. Joshua has a knack for the flow of a story in sequential form, employing a strong visual sense to his scripts from the very first draft.
Joshua has also finished a manuscript for a book based on a television pilot he co-wrote and is currently working on additional manuscripts for future books in the series.
