Kai is a graduate of a rigorous, writing-intensive liberal arts program and a former editorial intern at the Sierra Club. While at St. John's College, he wrote several academic essays per semester, receiving close feedback on them from his professors and using their guidance to hone his already strong writing skills. As an editorial intern, Kai got to know the basics of internet publishing. He learned how to craft an article, compose a newsletter, and how to integrate an interview into a written piece.

Kai's main areas of focus in writing have been environmental advocacy, literature, and philosophy. At St. John's College, he wrote his Senior Essay on Tolstoy's War and Peace, for which he conducted extensive research. He is also knowledgeable in music, politics, international affairs, reads widely and avidly, and is willing to write on almost any topic.

Kai loves music and is a bass player, guitarist and singer. He has played both upright and electric bass since he was eleven, and guitar since age fourteen. He has published recordings of his music online, performed live at school events and at independent venues. He also enjoys reading, writing stories, and journaling in his free time.
