Tommy G. Meade Jr. has been writing for The Urban Writers since early 2021. Although Tommy recently joined TUW and its incredible team of writers and editors, he has been taking writing seriously for over eight years. To that end, he provided a bit more information about his experience, education, interests, and hobbies in the bio below.

For as long as Tommy can remember, he has always loved reading and writing. Perhaps it was getting lost in a classic book, and maybe the writer wanted to imitate his favorite authors, putting words on paper and having them come alive as you read them aloud. Nevertheless, living his childhood dream of becoming a writer didn't come to fruition until Tommy attended university, enjoying the Black college experience. There, he realized he wanted to make a living as a writer.

The above is thanks to an English professor on campus who urged him to consider it strongly. And in doing so, Tommy decided to switch his major from Physical Education to Communications, focusing on Print Journalism. As they say, the rest is history. These are some of the courses he earned toward a bachelor's degree: Intro to Mass Communications and Advanced Reporting and Feature Writing.

Tommy received his first opportunity to write for a media platform shortly after, serving as a champion for underrepresented voices and perspectives. Due to his written work regarding things relevant to the nation's 101 historically Black colleges and universities, or HBCUs, he has become a notable member of his fraternity's Media and Entertainment field.

Tommy still has a passion for telling stories about those voices that often go unheard, not to mention that he has since expanded from my college and post-college journalism and found a love in fiction.

Aside from that, Tommy enjoys reading and writing during his spare time—his favorite authors are James Baldwin, William F. Buckley, Dan Brown, and more. He also loves taking walks and playing tennis.
