Chris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Literature and in Political Science. He also completed coursework for a minor in Music. He graduated magna cum laude and with honors. The honors designation was conferred upon the successful completion of his defense of his honor's thesis.
14 years with the Boy Scouts of America provided Chris with extensive opportunities to communicate with Scouts and families about events/activities designed specifically for them. Chris developed a great understanding of the information families need. in doing so, he honed a voice in which to communicate that information.
For 14 years, Chris worked in various non profit roles within the Boy Scouts of America. His experiences range from writing for fundraising, such as evidenced in this sample, to communicating about policy and procedure changes, to promoting events and everything in-between.
Chris's 14 year career with the Boy Scouts of America provides a rich context for both being able to comprehend and to write about outdoor recreation. He provided marketing leadership to an average of 4 events a year. This enabled him to develop a deep understanding and passion for communicating about the outdoors.
Serving as an integral design and content contributor for 5 website redesigns, Chris is no stranger to clear, concise, and informative copy and content. Webpage redesigns for the Juniata Valley Council, BSA, PA Dutch Council, BSA, and New Birth of Freedom Council, BSA are part of Chris's professional experience. Webpage's for the Lancaster Sertoma Club and Lititz Moravian Church were projects he volunteered to help create. Chris's experience goes beyond the redesign itself. He regularly contributed content beyond launch for each of these websites, but now primarily contributes content for the New Birth of Freedom Council.
In lieu of having a marketing and communications executive, Chris and fellow senior management at the New Birth of Freedom Council are charged with content creation for social media. Chris's experience with social media ranges from informative pieces, such as this sample, to advertisements for upcoming events, calls to action, campaign progress reports, and feel-good stories. Chris is comfortable in adapting existing content as well as generating brand new copy.
For more than 14 years, Chris contributed regularly to newsletters both for his career and volunteer commitments. The origins of his interest stem back to his high school and college experiences as a newspaper editor. Today, Chris continues to pen articles while managing a staff member responsible for monthly article planning and editing.
