Melissa graduated in 1996 from Pepperdine University with a degree in Mass Communications. This degree combined specialties in journalism, advertising, public relations, and business communications.
Melissa has worked with a wide variety of non-profits. She has helped bring attention to homelessness, veterans, disadvantaged youth, child famine and joblessness. She has helped create press releases, newsletters, annual reports, pitch and appeal letters and blog posts.
Melissa is a published author of historical romance, including the Lineage time travel series, as well as several novellas. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, and is familiar with the romance industry, authors and markets.
Melissa started her PR career in entertainment with music and sports. Today, she specializes in comics and indie film. She has appeared on several Comic Con panels.
With over 20 years experience, Melissa has written press releases for entertainment, non-profit and business clients. These have led to stories in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, Jewish Journal, KNX Radio, and various other media outlets, both print and online. She has also worked with wire release services, and can tailor word counts and subject matter.
Melissa has experience creating bi-annual and quarterly newsletter content. This includes story research, interviewing subjects, captioning photos and writing comments and letters from the Board President and CEO. She has also worked with designers on layout.
Melissa has conceptualized and written over 10 annual reports for non-profits. She is familiar with rules for 501c reports, and her work has been recognized by the PRSA Los Angeles Chapter. The annual report themed "What do I want to be" which contrasted childhood dreams with adult job realities won the PRISM for best annual report.
