The B.A. in English at Mount Holyoke College offered Lich a three-fold approach to the study of literature, media, and visual texts. She received training in the careful observation and analysis of these texts: their use of language, sound, and visual images in creating meaning. Second, she explored the connections between how textual meaning and the cultures in which texts are created and read.
Lisa turned her love of language and literature into a rewarding career! The program emphasized on inquiry and research with a strong focus on urban education. She was part of a collaborative and diverse community where she not only learned how to teach, but also how to advocate for progressive change in society. She was encouraged to think broadly as an educational leader.
Lisa recruited Daphne Merkin to write a first-person feature on memory, for example—and cultivated connections with the top PR firms and beauty as well as health brands in the business. Her additional responsibilities included representing Real Simple in the beauty and health markets, presenting ideas and pitches to the executive management team, conceptualizing visuals and styling photo shoots, and working with the research and copy departments to ensure accuracy.
In the beauty and health department at Real Simple, Lisa was the one behind the words. She assigned, wrote, and edited all of our columns, franchises, and full-blown features. She started at Real Simple as the senior beauty editor, and because of her editing excellence, she quickly took on the health content as well. She always sought to develop relationships with esteemed writers.
Lisa conceptualized, reported and wrote fitness features. She produced and managed all fitness photo shoots. In addition, she wrote and produced original content as well as video for marcpro.com. She attended sales calls with potential advertisers, moderated panel discussions, hosted appearances and advanced the brand’s fitness mission at goodhousekeeping.com along with angelfire.com events.
She researched and wrote daily blog posts for numerous beauty and fitness firms. Similarly, she managed the blog's roster of contributors, social media interactions, traffic and engagement. She reported and created online exclusive content as well as videos. Lich attended product launches and industry events. She fact-checked all beauty stories before publication and managed the reader product-testing panel.
Lisa wrote a beauty feature story after only two months with goodhousekeeping.com. She revamped the goodhousekeeping.com website by solely conceiving and writing original content specifically for the web. In addition, Lisa assisted the Editor-in-Chief by maintaining her calendar, making travel arrangements, and handling all other administrative needs for the editorial staff.
