Maribeth majored in elementary education, and minored in English. She also took classes in creative writing.
Maribeth has written web copy, email campaigns, social media posts, and direct mail for several local nonprofit companies. Maribeth's personal life has been impacted in a positive way by several nonprofit organizations so she able to write very personally about these causes. She has performed speaking commitments and school programs on their behalf.
Maribeth has written magazine articles for local publications and for one national magazine. While her list of paid projects is not long she has written many unpaid articles and web copy as a volunteer in the nonprofit sector. As a former educator who taught the writing process for many years Maribeth is accomplished in narrative, expository, and persuasive article writing. She works well with editors, takes direction well, and always honors deadlines.
Maribeth's first book, "Christopher's Journey" is the memoir of her son, Chris's, battle with pediatric cancer. Medical challenges, spiritual issues, and the emotional impact of a devastating illness upon the family are revealed through narrative details and journal entries.
The reader shares the intimate experience of this remarkable young man from his diagnosis in 1997 at the age of ten until his passing in 2001 at the age of 14. Chris's unique sense of humor and his incredible faith remain intact until the very end, when he leads his family in finding their own faith. Publisher: iUniverse.
Maribeth's second book, "The Bald-Headed Princess"(Cancer, Chemo, and Courage) is a middle reader children's book for families affected by pediatric cancer. 11-year old Isabel learns that having cancer is awful, but it can't change who she is. With the support of of her friends and family, along with her courage and a fabulous sense of humor, she gets through the side effects, the scariness, and the baldness of cancer and chemo. Maribeth's Christian blog “Journeys of the Heart” is an unpaid personal project of healing and hope. Maribeth writes about her faith walk and how she has coped after multiple tragedies including the deaths of two of her children. Her family has also struggled with addiction, depression, and financial devastation. Using scripture verses, personal anecdotes, and poignant stories of everyday heroes she strives to glorify her savior Jesus Christ and to remind others that “Laughter and tears are only a moment apart, but joy is eternal.”
