Megan has five years experience writing and editing articles for regional magazines and local newspapers based primarily in the mountains of North Carolina. As a freelance newspaper reporter for High Country Press and The Biltmore Beacon, Megan’s work ran the gamut from investigative news reporting to reviewing local events. However, she specializes in writing well-researched, local history and human interest pieces, and also excels at crafting artist and business profiles that capture the local flavor of a community and its people. Feature length pieces have appeared in publications such as WNC Magazine, High Country Magazine and Appalachian Voices. While her storytelling skills are a consistently strong trademark of her work, she is an equally adept editor and a powerfully concise wordsmith with a strong command of AP style. As editorial assistant at WNC Magazine and lifestyles editor for The Mountaineer newspaper, Megan has copious copy editing experience.

In addition to Megan’s professional journalism credentials, one of her biggest assets is her diverse liberal arts academic background which inspires her work. Megan holds a bachelor’s in both history and anthropology with a concentration in museum studies, equipping her with excellent research skills and the ability to distill academic jargon into colloquial language for public consumption. She also holds a Master of Library and Information Studies with specializations in children’s literature, public libraries and school libraries. As a children’s librarian for three years, Megan is just beginning to merge her expertise in libraries and journalism to write children’s book reviews in a professional capacity.
