Jennifer has experience in several different specialties, including: gardening, positive youth development, leadership development, organizational motivation, hands-on learning, agriculture production, event planning, public speaking, technical writing, grant writing, and positive parenting.
Jennifer loves historical farms and hopes to achieve her goal of starting her own homestead someday. She's passionate about using local products, growing her own food, and being self-reliant. Jennifer also enjoys horseback riding, running, reading, writing, doing do-it-yourself projects, and public speaking.
As and undergraduate, Jennifer was an exceptional student while remaining highly involved in student programs. She was a secretary for the Ag Student Council and the Animal Science Club responsible for keeping records, maintaining communication with club members and supporters, event planning, and marketing. She was also an Agriculture Ambassador for 2 years responsible for highs school recruitment, presentations, and supporting college led activities. In addition to student activities, she was an Undergraduate Research Fellow, National 4-H Council Office and Research Intern, and concurrent graduate student.
As a part of the Agriculture Extension curriculum, Jennifer studied organizational motivation, leadership development, grant and technical writing, and positive youth development. In addition to her studies, Jennifer was also the Agriculture Student Senator responsible for chairing the Agriculture Student Council; planning and advertising student events; providing regular student communication updates; and coordinating with advisers, students, and sponsors.
Jennifer is a DIY craft expert! Crafting has been an essential part of her entire life and one of her favorite things to do. Jennifer’s lifelong involvement in sewing and crafting 4-H clubs has provided ample opportunities to learn and hone her crafting skills. Jennifer loves creating beautiful and functional sewing, craft, and art pieces to meet a variety of needs on a budget. Jennifer especially enjoys customizing spaces and closets with simple and budget friendly DIY projects. She specializes in creating beautiful clothing patterns, altering patterns, and repurposing clothing and home décor items to meet new needs.
Jennifer has been involved in gardening all her life, from her small family farm growing up to her professional career. As part of her responsibilities at Thanksgiving Point Institute, Jennifer taught the Jr. Master Gardeners club for 2 ½ years. She officially became a USU Extension Master Gardener in 2015 and utilized that information in her professional career as well as her home garden. Jennifer especially loves growing vegetables, but is expanding into landscaping and fruit trees. She is excited to share her love of gardening with youth and adults alike.
Jennifer has studied and worked in the field of positive youth development and transformative family learning for 5 years. She grew up actively participating 4-H (a nationwide positive youth development organization) and wanted to provide similar experiences to other youth and families that she enjoyed. During her professional career, Jennifer was responsible for creating and encouraging transformative family learning experiences through the 4-H and School Programs at Thanksgiving Point Institute in Lehi, Utah. In addition, Jennifer has her own young family and is passionate about positive parenting, creating memorable family experiences, and helping parents and families improve their family life.
Jennifer has written many articles as part of her graduate and professional career. These have ranged from technical research papers to informational articles and fact sheets. These articles have been published in USU Digital Commons, the Journal of Extension, and the Thanksgiving Point Gazette. Jennifer enjoys sharing information with others in an informational article.
Jennifer loves the informal nature of blog posts and the opportunity to connect with others in a more conversational tone. While she doesn't have formal blogging training, Jennifer loves sharing ideas, tutorials, and connecting with communities and businesses through blog posts and is in the process of starting her own blog.
Jennifer wrote and contributed to several company newsletters and periodicals as part of her graduate and professional career. She contributed to the Thanksgiving Point Gazette and Education Catalog, as well as managing email newsletters to teachers, parents, and participants of the programs she was over. Jennifer understands the importance of connecting with readers and presenting information in a fun, simple format that gets results.
