Melanie completed her undergraduate studies in Zoology and Chemistry, with a minor in French literature. She completed two peer-reviewed publications and an undergraduate thesis while conducting part-time research.
Melanie completed her masters degree in ecology, studying ungulate social networks and wildlife telemetry. Two chapters of her thesis were published in peer-reviewed publications.
Melanie has paid experience writing scholarship, fellowship, and grant applications for clients with varying subjects of expertise, including biology, chemistry, business, fine art, and culinary entrepreneurship. She has written and/or fine-tuned resumes and CVs to help clients land positions in a variety of technical fields.
For the past 3 years, Melanie has worked as a project coordinator for a U.S. federal agency. She has written four peer-reviewed publications, two scientific investigations reports, and over fifteen technical reports and standard operating manuals for the benefit of technicians, land managers, and stakeholders involved in the management of coastal habitats in the Pacific Northwest. Before her tenure as project coordinator, Melanie worked as a biologist for a local non-for-profit, where she was responsible for the organization of several training manuals and one publication. Her experience is centered on the written interpretation of scientific data including quantitative analyses, biostatistics, ecology, wildlife behavior, fisheries management, community dynamics, and population ecology.
As an undergraduate, Melanie worked as a laboratory technician in an NIH-funded lab studying the effects of pesticides on amphibian thyroid function, reproductive development, and metamorphosis. Her manuscript was published in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, along with one other publication from an independent research project.
As a published scientist, Melanie has written more than ten peer-reviewed journal articles, six of which have been published, and three of which are currently in review. She has experience writing in multiple ecological topics, and can expertly analyze, interpret, and compose scientific manuscripts given the appropriate context.
Melanie has written and assisted with annual scientific reports for a variety of stakeholders, including federal and state offices, non-governmental organizations, and non-for-profits. These reports have varied in length between ten and 100 pages long, and have ranged in technical detail (i.e. wording, statistical depth, formatting) depending upon the audience of interest.
