John Yabes is a staff writer at the Ka Leo newspaper based out of the University Of Hawai'i at Manoa. He has written over forty articles in seven months including opinion pieces, film reviews, and entertainment articles. Currently majoring in digital film production at the Academy of Creative Media, he is planning on pursuing screenwriting as an occupation. He also freelances as a stand up comedian, having opened up for touring comedians such as Graham Elwood and Brooks Wheelan, former Saturday Night Live cast member. He gets booked for shows on the strength of his original written material. He is also apart of a podcast called Lucha Con Ha Ha, a comedic platform about the wrestling business. Previously enlisted in the United States Navy as a nuclear trained mechanic on a Virginia class submarine, having also qualified as an engine room supervisor. The Navy has taught him the value of hard work and deadlines and he always strives to meet those goals.
