Mara attended Brown University in Providence, RI for 2 1/2 years. She majored in Political Science but left when she realized that she was no longer interested in attending law school.
Mara received a BA in Media Studies with a concentration in Screenwriting from New York City's New School University in May 2006.
Mara spent more than 30 years in the financial services industry, where she specialized in foreign exchange and interest rate hedging. She worked for both US and European banks, predominantly in trading rooms, and consulted with both mid-sized and Fortune 100 companies.
Mara has written, produced, and promoted 2 feature films and 6 short movies. She has taken them to more than 30 film festivals around the US and Canada; she has successfully navigated the distribution process to successfully sell her first feature, "Surviving Family." In addition to writing her on blog - "More or Less on Movies" - she is a frequent contributor to filmmaking blogs.
Mara recently started the blog "More or Less on Movies," to help other screenwriters and independent producers to navigate this challenging field. She previously wrote the blog "My Take..." which offered light-hearted commentary on plays, movies, and the film festival experience.
Mara has written several articles for film-related publications, including "Filmmaker Forum." The articles reflect her experiences - the good, the bad, and the ugly - writing, producing, and promoting her movies.
Mara developed, writes, and manages the Facebook pages for the feature films "Surviving Family" (18k+ fans) and "Detours" (3k+ fans).
