After receiving her master degree in Liberal Arts (specializing in Latin American Studies) from Utrecht University in The Netherlands in 1999, Vibeke for more than five years worked as a fulltime editor of teaching materials. After that Vibeke worked fulltime as an acquiring editor / publisher of non-fiction books (and serious games) about management, personal development, psychology, self-help, marketing and communication. Apart from coaching authors and instructing printing companies, translators, designers and editors, Vibeke in these years has edited more than 120 manuscripts and games and wrote articles, press releases and commercial texts.
Nowadays Vibeke applies all these valuable years of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm as a freelance translator and editor. She feels like a fish in water translating and proofreading texts from English and Spanish into Dutch. She has translated websites, brochures, press releases, white papers and blogs for companies like Yext, Oster, Acer, NYDJ, Best Western Hotels, Readers Digest, Dell, Cabman, Xeikon and NGO’s like Solidaridad and the Belgian Tourism Office. Vibeke has also worked on the Dutch translations of books like Grey, David Bowie Is, Sri Lanka Food, Cosmic Encounter (game), Becoming Steve Jobs, Over the Rainbow, World War I, The Beauty Detox Solution, World War II, and The Fast Diet and recently the Spanish book series Descubrir la filosofía.
Vibeke grew up in the countryside where her family had their own vegetable garden, a huge old-fashioned orchard with apple, pear and plum trees and lots of animals like dogs, cats, horses and chickens. The Dutch crown estates formed their backyard. These were the main ingredients for her love for nature, gardening, cooking and baking (of course with home-grown fruit and vegetables). However, because Vibeke also loves art, languages and culture, she decided to study Latin American Studies.
Her spare time Vibeke spends making photos, designing fabrics, sewing and gardening. She is an active member of an allotment association in her city of residence Utrecht and writes the newsletters of this association, has developed the new website, is a member of the nature group, takes care of photography of events, etc.
Vibeke has a knack for languages. At grammar school she was always best in class in English and French and nowadays her day-to-day family life is bilingual Spanish-Dutch. No wonder translating is her second nature!
