A couple of months after starting secondary school, Sergio´s mother asked what he would like for his 12th birthday. His answer was, "I would like the 5 dictionaries that are at the window of the bookshop in front of school: English-Spanish, French-Spanish, Italian-Spanish, German-Spanish and Portuguese-Spanish. Astonished, his mom asked why he wanted such an unusual present. And he answered: "Because one day I will travel a lot". Sergio learnt all these languages and with 20 years started travelling. Today, he is 56 and lived, worked and visited a lot of countries.
With regard to translations, his first job was in 1974, when being a teenager (14) he translated an Oscilloscope manual. The client was a benevolent uncle that helped him with the electronic and technical words, and paid him with a nice orange desk lamp. In 1980 he achieved degrees in English and Portuguese, the two languages he translate to Latin American Spanish. Having worked in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico, and having a Colombian girlfriend, he acquired and developed a real Latin American style understandable in all countries.
