Gemma is an expert in both line editing and structural editing. She uses her keen eye for detail, developed from analyzing many novels and stories throughout her education, to comb through line by line and word by word to make sure there are no mistakes. Gemma's ability to write and structure her own short stories also allows her to offer substantial and productive advice on order, emphasis, and big-picture edits. She is also a great creative backbone and is dependable for brainstorming or bouncing ideas off.
Gemma is a creative writer and loves exploring storytelling through that medium. She is an avid reader and is currently obsessed with Elena Ferrante's Neopolitan Novels. When she isn't writing, she directs plays, writes music, and channels her passion for telling stories in other ways. She loves to bake and also likes reading tarot.
When she isn't writing, Gemma works in the theater and music industries. She has experience writing ad copy and press releases for entertainment events, as well as experience writing content for programs. Gemma has also worked as a coverage writer for Pretty Matches Production Company.
As a Political Science Major, Gemma has a solid understanding of how to read, understand, and edit political articles and documents. She also worked as a Deputy Field Organizer for David Weprin's 2021 NYC Comptroller campaign, which gives her insight into the workings of the field as well.
In her final semester in college, Gemma worked closely with her creative writing professor to curate a short story collection to culminate her fiction writing experience at Skidmore. Through this process, she gained a great understanding of the art of writing, editing, and rewriting necessary when working on a book or novel.
Gemma has a clear understanding of the Newsletter content creation process. She was the Editor-in-Chief of Reflections, a literary and art magazine, for two years. Under her jurisdiction, the magazine was awarded two consecutive gold medals from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. She also worked as the Skidmore Theater Department’s Newsletter Editor-in-Chief, where she was responsible for writing and editing the articles posted to their website.
