Dan H. is an editor and writer who has three decades of experience in writing and editing articles in areas such as international security and energy. A large part of his work has focused on nuclear policy, but recent editing assignments have covered topics such as government transparency and peace education. His writing and editing experience includes news reporting, interviews, book reviews, and long-form features. He is a digger for details, a juggler of tasks, and a mentor.

For seven years, Dan was editor in chief of a policy journal. He was responsible for all the journal’s written material, producing approximately 40 pages of content 10 times a year with minimal staff. Since 2016, he has been a freelance editor and writer. One client praised him for having “a keen eye for language, style, and clarity, and more important a sense of editorial judgment”; another described him as an “absolute pro and exactly what you’d want in a writer/editor: sharp, analytical, precise, deadline-driven, flexible and good-natured.”

Dan is very familiar with AP and Chicago styles. He is used to jumping back and forth between styles and has overseen and helped refine style guides. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Yale University and a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Dan is a grammar geek and a language nerd. One of his volunteer activities is teaching for an organization that offers training in English and other areas to low-income adult immigrants. One of the many things he enjoys about this work is that it sharpens his appreciation for what a rich, versatile, maddening language English is.
