As a historian by training, John has over a decade of experience evaluating, revising, and proofing writing. He has corrected thousands of college essays, and hundreds of papers, articles, reviews, and syllabi for himself and for his colleagues. He has years of experience as a freelance editor as well, specializing in academic work and work produced by ESL speakers. In his career so far he has edited several books, a dissertation, and innumerable articles, studies, and shorter works. At his day job he teaches writing, grammar, and usage, and he is a rapid and high-quality copy-editor as well as being skilled at substantive editing.

Specialties

To date John has specialized first in general copy-editing. Proofreading is a genuine talent of his, honed through many years of essay grading and revising. He can thus offer very rapid and thorough proofreading regardless of the content or scope of your project. Second, he also specialize in academic editing. As an academic himself, he is familiar with Chicago and MLA formats, a variety of field-specific writing conventions, and the tenor and diction generally used in academic writing. Third, he specializes in ESL editing, and can take your draft and bring it into conformance with the highest standard of English usage and style.

Interests

When not teaching, writing, editing, or translating, John enjoys reading creative fiction, watching high-quality television, and keeping up on social and political commentary. He lives in Hillsborough with his fiancee and the cutest, fluffiest, most adorable Siberian cat there ever was.
