As an editor, Susan subscribes to Mark Twain's philosophy: The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. She brings 10 years of journalism to bear, having served as International Editor in charge of the launch of the IDG News Service, a daily news summary targeted to CIOs and high tech executives worldwide. Under her supervision, copy was compiled from 14 Computerworld newsrooms around the globe, summarized, prioritized and redistributed to subscribers with fresh, concise headlines.
Later, Susan’s work in the public relations industry involved editing key messages, FAQs, press releases and speeches for high tech clients. She crafted and streamlined media materials for several Fortune 500 companies (Motorola, Cognos, Software AG), and was instrumental in the successful introduction of the German enterprise software company SAP to the US market. At her last public relations post (Senior Account Director, Cunningham Communication), she developed and implemented a quality control initiative for all written documents produced by the firm.
Susan thrives in fast-paced environments such as newsrooms and the high tech sector, confronting deadlines, client demands and the constantly shifting terrain of technology and terminology. She has kept abreast of database management while serving as Communication Manager for The Dennis Yacht Club, where her responsibilities include producing and distributing regular newsletters based on member inputs, and maintaining member records using Memberclicks software. She is also familiar with search engine optimization (SEO) requirements as a freelance reporter for local papers (WickedLocal.com) and regional magazines (Cape Home and Prime Time Cape Cod). For three years, she edited her town’s Police Blotter, providing a snapshot of the week’s crimes. In the past 24 months, she has produced dozens of stories which have been featured prominently in print and online.
A voracious reader and vigilant editor, Susan is always on the lookout for typographical errors in books, news, menus and advertisements, and claims her diligence is consistently rewarded.
