Writer Spotlight: Sarah S

sarah sThis week, meet writer Sarah S from Bent Mountain, VA.  Check out our blog every Wednesday for a new interview with our super talented and very interesting WriterAccess writers.

If you had a catchphrase, what would it be?
This is how the apocalypse starts.

What’s your day job super power?
Making up epic origin stories about the personified versions of products for which I write catalog copy. I recently wrote about advertising banners for a several days while secretly battling against the wicked, moustache-twirling Flex Banner and his dastardly crew of marketing signs.

On a more serious note, I can leap search engines in a single bound and rescue elusive statistics to back up points made in articles and blog posts.

Best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t look at your daily to-do list as things you have to do. Look at it as things you get to do.

Favorite hat?
This past Christmas, some of the WriterAccess writers held a Secret Santa Swap. My secret Santa sent me a fabulous black and white crochet hat that I wore all winter. You can see it in the picture.

If there was a movie based on your life, what actor/actress would play you?
I cheated and asked my sister. She said, “Ellen Page.” We’ll go with that, because Ellen Page is adorable.

What would the title of the movie be?
“Secret Confessions of a Socially Awkward Evil Genius.” Do you think viewers will have trouble believing Ellen Page as an evil genius? If so, she’s perfect for the role.

Favorite thing about WA?
I enjoy the variety of work available and the ability to create working relationships with clients. I also appreciate the timelines required for work–deadlines are my frenemy.

Describe a typical day in your life. (In one sentence.)
On a normal day, I try not to eat cookies while I research, write, edit, rewrite, play a few rounds of Papa Pear Saga, interact with coworkers online, break at least one thing in my home by accident, and make up stories or songs to go with the task at hand.

Favorite writer, dead or alive?
If I’m forced to pick just one, Neil Gaiman.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Google image searching, Netflix, cookies, comics/graphic novels, online games…Was I supposed to pick just one?

Favorite breakfast food?
Country ham biscuit. Or just biscuits in general.

Little known fact about you?
I’m a leprechaun. At least, that’s what I tweeted to the Irish Tourism Board in an attempt to score a sponsored trip to Ireland. I’m still waiting to hear back from them regarding plans for my return to the mother country.

What can’t you live without?
I hate to admit, but I’ve become quite attached to my smartphone. Also, cookies.
