Mary has also earned specialized certifications to teach students with special education needs, including those with behavioral/emotional disabilities and learning disabilities. Her researching, writing, proofreading and editing skills are excellent.
Mary loves to engage in all types of writing, but is particularly proficient in the area of academic research. Her Master's degree in History required that she demonstrate proficiency in the examination and analysis of mostly primary source materials such as government documents. Mary's most recent Master's degree in Professional Counseling required she conduct academic research as well. Most of this work involved the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of secondary source materials such as professional journals and scholarly articles in addition to print and electronic books and references. Throughout this process, Mary studied the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV and DSM-V) in order to master the skill of diagnosis. In addition to academic writing, Mary enjoys creating new lessons and writing exercises for the high school students she teaches. These are geared toward the development of critical thinking and argument writing. Some of the classes Mary teaches include U.S. 20th Century History, World History & Modern Affairs, U.S. Law, U.S. Civics and Economics, World Cultures, Global Issues, and Advanced Placement Comparative and U.S. Government. When not engaging in writing for research or for the designing of lesson plans, Mary loves to indulge in more creative forms of writing such as journaling, dream analysis, story writing, and channelling.
Mary has many eclectic interests. These include health, wellness and fitness, ballet, kundalini yoga, and meditation. She is immersed in the study of many esoteric topics such as New Age Spirituality and holistic healing methods like sound and crystal healing.
