Susan Zabowski is an Academic administrative and training professional with over 40 years’ experience in all phases of higher education management and organization, with emphasis on staff development and training and communications. She Joined the University of Miami in 1998 as the Assistant Director of Training in the Information Technology Institute. Directed all phases of public relations and marketing for the Institute, including selection of marketing collateral as well as all print and video pieces. Currently serve as Director of Communications for the College of Engineering and Adjunct Faculty in the English Composition Program. Consistently receives highest student evaluations in all writing and communication courses at UM.
She joined Broward College’s English and Journalism Department as an Adjunct Lecturer in 2014, teaching both the ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 courses, in various formats, including enhanced, blended, and on line. Evaluations have always been outstanding, reflecting both concern for the students and sensitivity to their learning backgrounds.
At Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, managed all corporate and alumni relations for the College of Engineering, hosting homecoming and national convention hospitality functions, invited lecture events, and fundraising campaigns. Developed and purchased all marketing collateral for all major events, including international proceedings. Designed and edited internal and external newsletters as well as research brochures, recruiting posters and faculty recruitment campaigns. Served as managing editor for CIT Engineering Magazine .
Creator and instructor of the course "Technical Writing for the Engineer", a course developed specifically to improve the written and oral communication skills of undergraduate engineering students. Also creator of “Business Writing for the Professional” a course designed for working professionals encompassing international issues as well as email etiquette and meeting dynamics. Contributing editor to major college business English text and consultant editor for Southwestern Publishing Company. Invited seminar speaker on Proposal Writing Techniques and Computing Networking at national conferences; presenter at EDUCAUSE for University of Miami’s Net learning initiative; invited presenter at international conferences on Global Academic Issues.
As an independent contractor, have produced both SEO material and extended blog material for a variety of international agencies. Editing of proposals and research publications a specialty as well.
