Dan is an award-winning journalist with daily and wire service experience. As long as the coffee holds out he can meet any tight deadline!

Dan's writing experience not only includes working for newspapers but he has worked on the other side of the editorial fence in media relations and public relations.

In the past decade Dan founded two hyper-local media sites both of which he built from scratch into true destination landing spots for locals looking online for sports, news and views from their community. Dan did the lion's share of the content, producing a prolific 15,000+ articles. Dan also built a social networking community on Twitter and Facebook.

This rich content and dedicated fans not only drew the page views but attracted many advertisers and eventually larger investors who bought both of the enterprises.

Over the years Dan has produced everything from media guides to press releases to pitch letters to magazine and newsletter articles to full-fledged manuals.

Dan's client experience includes the small -- the songwriter looking to make a name in Nashville -- to the big -- Reebok, Revlon and Eckerd Drug Company. He has also worked with the trade press -- representing companies from France and Australia -- and with government agencies and NGOs.

Dan and his family relocated to the Houston area in 2014 where his flexible hours allows him to be a key part of the school and soccer carpool rotation!

Dan's experience as a journalist has helped him to transition easily into writing press releases. He says he has received enough press releases over the years as a beat writer and editor and then publisher to know what works and what doesn't work.

Dan's press release experience includes working for a boutique public relations firm in New York City as well as working for a non-profit in Washington, D.C. that was the USAID's largest contractor with $100+ million in projects around the world.

Summary of Industry Experience

Sports

Dan has more than three decades of covering athletics ranging from the 13-15 Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series to the NFL playoffs.

At the University of Pacific and George Mason University Dan worked in the sports information departments writing content for media guides and cover live events.

Dan took home two first place sports writing awards for his daily newspaper coverage at the Potomac News in Woodbridge, VA and spent three years covering the local minor league baseball team.

In the 1990s Dan worked as the top freelancer for the Washington, D.C. Associated Press bureau with his coverage including the NFL, NHL, MLS as well as professional tennis and golf and collegiate athletics.

In the past decade Dan combined his love of local sports and his community by building two local websites that covered all 18 varsity sports at 10 high school. Dan built the sites from scratch into 10,000+ pages of content and coordinated the activities of a dozen photographers and edited another dozen high school and college intern writers.

Education

Dan S. is a former social studies teacher who is familiar with the educational environment. While working for Bratskeir & Co. in New York City, he helped design a consumer campaign that included lesson plans for schools and information guides for educators. For the last decade the hyper-local websites he published focused on coverage of high schools. He has also served as a substitute teacher in middle schools and high schools across all subjects.

High Tech

Dan S. was the American media relations coordinator for French-based Digigram and Australian-based Tieline Technology. Both companies featured forward-thinking IP-based pro audio products. Dan S. put together press kits and represented the companies at trade shows in the U.S. Dan S. was able to produce press releases that highlighted the company and product messages but in a style and manner which allowed trade publications to plug the released straight into their publications with little or no editing.

Dan S. didn't not have a background in pro audio products prior to working with these companies but the former AP freelance journalist and New York City PR pro has a strong media relations base that allows him to quickly and succinctly promote any product and company. His journalism background allows him to tell well-written and informative stories that make for great editorial.

Web Page

In 2005 Dan was frustrated that he couldn't find the football scores for the local high school online so he and his 8th grade son developed a 4-page website and LoudounPrepSports was born. In just three years more than 10,000 pages of content were created and the popular local media site was sold to a larger company.

Dan then recreated the experience again with VivaLoudoun.com. A website that not only covered sports but education, entertainment and other news important to locals.

Dan's experience has taught him how to create web pages and content that capture the readers attention.
