Summary of Construction ExperienceElizabeth has worked as a contractor in the construction of new homes and renovation of older homes for 25 years. She has written DIY articles in the field of home construction and repair for eHow. She has been involved in many DIY projects over the years. Elizabeth is the 'go-to' person in her circle to help improve the design of projects and solve problems with home construction. However, some jobs, she leaves to the qualified professionals, like the replacement of gas water heaters.
Her latest project is the demo of old railroad tie walls that have rotted. Elizabeth is replacing them with cinder block that is a much greener product and will not rot. In her opinion, the railroad ties should not be used because they contain a toxic chemical that leaches into the soil and contaminates it.
Elizabeth can write about virtually any DIY project dealing with home improvement, except installing gas water heaters! In the past, she has ripped out and redone kitchens, baths, removed walls to enlarge rooms, finished basements, attics, built stairs, installed high-end molding/trim, wallpaper, tile, windows, doors, sinks, toilets. She has also built outbuildings, installed pavers and other forms of hardscape, fish ponds, fountains, waterfalls, and all types of gardens and landscaping. She has skills in painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical work, drywall, and HVAC systems. Her favorite work is masonry, especially brick and natural stone.
