Summary of Food ExperienceKiek in de Kök (Low German for a “Peep into the Kitchen”) is an artillery tower in Tallinn, Estonia, built in 1475. Tower occupants would spy down into the kitchens of the Old Town houses below to see what was cooking.
This blog is my peep into the kitchen.
The kitchen?or in Estonian, köök?has always been a happy place for me. My Estonian great-grandmother, Hermine, worked in the Czar's kitchen until the end of the Romanov empire. Legend has it that she made the most unbelievable fish soup. She died before I was born, but my mother tells me that we share a love of languages, travel, and food. Hermine is pictured below on the left, her hands on my mother's shoulders.
